"My initial reaction was that this must be too good to be true: a school that I could actually mold around my own schedule so that I could reach my full potential in both aspects of my life. Laurel Springs has offered me the flexibility and support necessary for me to be awarded the marks I deserve on and off the ice."

LSS Student Wins Brick Award and Featured in August Teen Vogue!

Do Something Honors Young Change-Makers at the 2006 BRICK Awards Presented by Kohl's

Brick Awards Recipients

We just returned from NYC with our daughter Rachael Lambin from the Do Something BRICK Awards gala. I wanted to share with you something very exciting that happened to her during our trip. Rachael was asked to by Teen Vogue magazine if they could do an article on her. Of course, it was a pleasure and so on Thursday last week, we went to Ramscale Studio in Greenwich Village to do a photo shoot about Rachael. I have included the spec’s from an email that we received with all the facts on the shoot. I thought that it is really neat that she will be in Teen Vogue, a national publication and that they are doing a three page spread on her! She will be in the August issue which comes on news stands in July. During the Do something BRICK Award gala, she met several large named celebrities including; Susan Sarandon (Academy Award Winner), Jimmy Fallon (SNL), Mary Liouse Parker (West Wing / Angels in America), Rocco DiSpirto (The Restaurant), Robert Verdi (Fashion Expert / Celeb Stylist), Kenon Thompson (SNL), Jamie Lynn Sigler (The Sapronos) and Andrew Shue. It was a really incredible event, none like I have ever been to and I can certainly see why they call it the Academy Awards of Community Services. I hope that you will think that this would be a good article and if you have any questions, please feel free to call us. This week Rachael is in Mexico teaching kids right now but I am sure that she would love to share with you her experiences the following week

Hollywood's Hottest Stars, Including Jimmy Fallon, Susan Sarandon, Mary-Louise Parker, Jamie-Lynn Sigler and Michelle Trachtenberg On-Hand to Award Community Service Rock Stars and Corporate Philanthropists

NEW YORK , April 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Do Something held its annual BRICK Awards Gala last night, hosted by Jimmy Fallon, at Capitale in New York City. Sponsored by Kohl's, the BRICK Awards honored young community service "rock stars" from across the country, as well as adults who have made incredible contributions to society. Since 1996, the BRICK Awards have funded young change-makers who identify problems in their communities, and then get up off the couch and do something to change our world.

"The BRICK Awards are an opportunity to recognize sincerely deserving people for doing amazing things," says Nancy Lublin, Chief Executive Officer of Do Something. "We're proud to bring kids, celebrities and corporate professionals together on a yearly basis to both take note of their achievements and to help them continue."

The evening began with Academy Award-winner Susan Sarandon presenting the first BRICK Award to Imelda Medrano and Alice DuBois for the "We've Got Your Back" campaign that provided more than 60,000 backpacks filled with new school supplies kids who were displaced by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

Do Something founder Andrew Shue presented the second award to Bob Nardelli, CEO of Home Depot. Golden Globe-winner Mary-Louise Parker took the stage after Andrew to present the "Individual Honoree Award" to Steve Buffone, of Gibson Dunn & Crutcher. New York Giant Michael Strahan and Saturday Night Live's Kenan Thompson presented the BRICK Award to Nickelodeon for its "Let's Just Play" campaign.

Michelle Trachtenberg presented the final awards, and the feature of the night, to the nine young social entrepreneurs for their incredible work in their communities. Damien Fahey presented the coveted "Ultimate BRICK Award" to Francesca Tenconi who gave a teary-eyed speech thanking Do Something and her parents for helping her to assist more children through her Children's Skin Disease Foundation.

At the event, noted celebrity stylist and fashion expert Robert Verdi talked with Jamie Lynn Sigler about upcoming fashion trends and gave advice on personal and wardrobe styling. A silent auction featured a photo shoot by Nigel Barker. The silent auction's most winning item was dinner with the cast of The Sopranos which raised $19,000. Susan Sarandon sat with Mary-Louise Parker and enjoyed a menu of tasty food from Rocco DiSpirito after enjoying a spring fashion preview from Kohl's.

Since 1996, Do Something has awarded over 1 million dollars in community service grants and scholarships to young social entrepreneurs throughout the nation. Each year, thousands of kids apply for a BRICK Award, but only nine winners are selected.
