LSS ninth-grader, Rae Porter Blackwell, took home the Gold at the USFSA sanctioned Pacific Coast Sectional Synchronized Skating Championships in Seattle, Washington, on January 21, 2006. Rae, along with her eleven team mates, won the event in the Open Juvenile category with a program choreographed by their coach, Jennifer Borus, to the song "It Had To Be You."

Rae has been figure skating since the fourth grade.
She trains at Vacaville Ice Center in Vacaville, California, as a member of the Vaca Valley Figure Skating Club.
Rae has been a champion freestyle figure skater for four years, having earned many titles in Bay Area competitions. In October 2005, she was asked to join the California Northstars Juvenile Synchronized Skating Team, coached by Jennifer Borus, who was then coaching the UC Davis Synchronized Skating Team.
The UC Davis team has now been re-organized as the California Northstars Adult Synchronized Skating Team, a companion team to the Juvenile team. The Adult team also took Gold in the Open Adult category. The team hopes to go to Nationals in 2007.
