Laurel Springs Students Again Dominate the Young Artists Awards |
It was a star-studded afternoon at the Young Artists Awards; Hollywood's answer to the Oscars for Industry kids and Laurel Springs School was not surprised to learn that thirteen of the nominated young artists were currently enrolled students. This ceremony, which was the 24th Annual Young Artists Awards, took place Saturday, March 29th, at the Sportsmen's Lodge in Studio City and has long been a wonderful forum for acknowledging the great and important work being done by young performers in movies, television, theatre and music.
Laurel Springs School, known in Hollywood circles as the "School for the Stars" has steadily become the entertainment communities favorite independent study program for school- age performers. Loved by parents and studio teachers for twelve years, Laurel Springs provides accredited curriculum, exceptional teacher services, flexible K-12 study programs, text or online, for today's young stars on the go. Marilyn Mosley, the school's director says the school is "committed to provide a first-class education for these talented kids, who otherwise face an uphill struggle trying to balance their grades and normal school schedule with their dreams and professional aspirations."
Marilyn Mosley presented an achievement award to Maureen Dragone, the Young Artist's Awards President and Founder, for her outstanding contribution to youth. Dragone, notorious for being shy, didn't come up on the stage, so Marilyn had given her the award and flowers while she was hiding in the shadows. Maureen has long been "committed to these young performers who still could not hope to compete fairly alongside their adult counterparts." She is a "true champion of youth for creating this special awards show that young artists could call their own."
Last year, 28 Laurel Springs Students were nominated and five won the Young Artist Awards, this year 13 were nominated and three won. Those were Lil' Bow Wow for "Like Mike" Mathew O'Leary for "Frailty" Kristen Stewart for "Panic Room" Erin Sanders for "Sony, Never Never" Kaley Cuoco for "8 Simple Rules For Dating My Teenage Daughter" Scarlet Pomers for "REBA" Justin Berfield for "Malcolm in the Middle" Lauren Frost for "Even Stevens" Amy Castle for "Lizzie McGuire" Abigail Mavity for "Haunted" Jennifer Nicloe Freeman for "My Wife and Kids" Thomas Dekker for "The Land Before Time, Part IX and Daveigh Chase for "Lilo and Stitch." Tawny Triska, another LSS student gave an exceptional performance at the gala event. She sang, "No Way Girlfriend." and had the kids rockin in front of the stage.
We are extremely proud to celebrate so many talented young actors for their hard work and memorable performances. | |
