Teacher Services
Laurel Springs is known for its exceptional teacher services. Our teacher service ensures each student a rewarding and personal teacher relationship.
No other distance learning program offers teacher services like Laurel Springs. We offer the detailed and personalized focus of the best private schools and a strong dedication to a student's home education.
Laurel Springs has more than 85 highly trained and educated teachers. They:
- encourage a student's natural curiosity and innate enthusiasm for learning.
- offer constructive, positive feedback and support a student's gifts and talents.
- create an atmosphere of care and concern.
- hand-grade every lesson a student turns in—18 lessons per semester.
- give individual feedback on assignments and extensive instruction throughout the semester.
- perform quarterly progress reports and regular assessments with your child.
Personalized Teacher Services for Every Student
Students work one-on-one with their own personal teacher, who offers academic and emotional support and an individualized course of study. Laurel Springs teachers are fully credentialed professionals with advanced degrees or extensive experience in the classroom or homeschooling. Throughout the school year, each student works with the same teacher. Younger grades have the same dedicated teacher for all core subjects. High school students have the support of a dedicated teacher for each subject and seniors can choose a Senior Core Teacher to guide and support them. Many of our students request the same teacher year after year. This personal relationship and communication allows students to grow at their own pace. Meet our teachers.
Grades, Mastery-Based Program, Online Gradebook
Our teachers grade and respond to each lesson with care, addressing areas of challenge with expertise and compassion. (Other programs grade only midterms and finals.) Our program is mastery-based; teachers work with each student personally to help him or her better a grade in any subject and adjust the content or pace of the lesson to suit the needs of the student. Grades, comments and student progress can be viewed by the student and parent online at our easy-to-access, easy-to-use interactive gradebook. The gradebook provides reminders to help the student stay on track and have a successful school year.
Keeping in Touch, Providing Support
Your personal teacher keeps in touch by responding to student and parent questions at our interactive gradebook or using email, fax, mail or phone. Teachers support students in creating a learning plan, advising academic strategies and setting up guidelines for communication. Your personal teacher keeps in contact with Laurel Springs and collaborates with the student's other teachers to strategize for student success.
Every high school student has a dedicated teacher for each subject. We believe in building strong relationships and students have the option to work with the same teachers year after year. This allows extensive personalized support. In addition, seniors can benefit from the extra support of a Senior Core Teacher. Younger students have one dedicated teacher per year. Other Important Concerns
Customization Services
When the needs of the student exceed what the standard Laurel Springs curriculum can offer our teachers may personalize lessons or customize courses to suit the dynamics of the student. Read more about Customization Services.
Grades
Elementary and middle grade students may receive grades or written evaluations. Please let your teacher know which you prefer.
Leaves and Extensions
If you are in need of a leave of absence, please let us know. We understand that families sometimes need some time off and we are here to best serve your educational needs. Extensions are also available. The family is still responsible for the full annual amount once the student resumes work.
Teacher-Student Relations
We understand that since we do provide such a unique and personal service, sometimes personalities don't blend. If any problem should arise with a student's teacher or curriculum, please contact your Enrollment Advisor. We will be happy to work with you to create a better situation. Our goal is to support every student.
