Curriculum

Choose a combination of online and textbook-based curriculum that fits your students’ needs.

Project-Based Curriculum Package (K–8th Grade)
This exciting curriculum is based on award-winning classic literature and hands-on projects. The program is excellent for creative children and for families who want an experience-based curriculum. The curriculum integrates language arts, math, social studies, health, science and the arts around major themes. The package of materials (which does not include online components) also includes a manual which guides parents through an entire academic year.

Online Curriculum Package (5th–8th Grade)
Online courses in core subjects for grades 5–8 combine the dynamic interactivity of the web with online assignments and checks for understanding. Courses are delivered via our learning management system, and use interactive electronic textbooks that are consistent with our textbook-based curriculum. To help extend student enrichment, these courses include professionally-reviewed content, full-color photos and graphics, plus numerous links to websites, such as world-renowned museums and universities.

Textbook-Based Curriculum Package (4th–8th Grade)
Our textbook-based curriculum addresses the reading and writing processes with care and sensitivity for the tremendous capacity for learning inherent in each child. The books have been carefully selected for their interest and appeal. Every child learns at a different rate, so we offer you a curriculum that can be adapted to individual needs and preferences.

National Junior Honor Society
The National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) is the national organization founded to acknowledge outstanding middle school students. NJHS honors students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of scholarship, leadership, service, character and citizenship.

The Laurel Springs School chapter of NJHS is open to all eligible students, beginning in 7th grade, who meet scholastic and character requirements.  Our school’s chapter not only recognizes students for their accomplishments, but challenges them to continue their achievements through active involvement in school activities and community service.

Symposia
Beginning in 7th grade, students may participate in our series of symposia, called “Meetings with Remarkable Men and Women.”  These live presentations feature celebrated figures who are leaders in their fields; past speakers have included an astronaut, a wildlife conservationist, a film director, an environmentalist, and a South Pole explorer.  Our symposia enhance the Laurel Springs educational experience by exposing our students to inspiring stories on a variety of topics.  These interactive experiences allow students to share their comments and ask questions, and students have access to archived presentations.
