College Prep Program and Premier College Prep Program for High School Students

Laurel Springs now offers two career and college planning programs to high school students: our College Prep Program and our Premier College Prep Program.

College Prep Program

o      MyEdge—A highly personalized online resource center, powered by Peterson’s StudentEdge, where students find everything they need to orient themselves for life after high school, both academically and professionally. The self-directed program includes test preparation programs as well as advanced search tools for colleges, financial aid and scholarship sources. It also provides an extensive career assessment section. Students and parents become active partners in the process with easy-to-use personal profiling tools.

o        Explore Careers - they learn about professions that match their skills and interests

o        Write a Résumé - they use the provided tools to compose a strong and persuasive résumé

o        Prepare for Standard Tests - SAT, ACT, PSAT, SAT Subject Tests, CLEP, AP and ASVAB

o        Search for Schools - they find the colleges that best meet their needs and aspirations

o        Pay for College - they plan ahead and find the financial resources needed for their further education

Premier College Prep Program

o      CollegeKey—Laurel Springs is invested in the academic success of all students wishing to attend the college that best matches their academic, athletic and other unique talents. With CollegeKey, students from 9th to 12th grade work closely with a personal mentor who guides them through the entire college preparation and admission process. One-to-one coaching with weekly meetings helps students develop their personal, academic and professional goals as they mature through the high school years. This collaboration ensures that, in addition to excellent academic preparation, Laurel Springs students receive the best coaching and mentoring for college selection and application and the best chance at acceptance to the colleges of their choice.

o        Comprehensive coaching, counseling and mentoring through weekly phone meetings

o        Goal setting—personal, academic, professional

o        Academic planning and test preparation

o        Development of a student profile

o        Assistance in application process, essay writing, campus visits, etc.

Note: Both College Prep Program and Premier College Prep Program fees are non-refundable.

Seniors graduating with Laurel Springs School add Matriculation Services.

High school students are also required to take the one-semester course "College and Career Planning" in their first year.

ABOUT THE HOMEROOM TEACHER

Each full-time Laurel Springs high school student is assigned a Homeroom Teacher.

  • Serves as the point person for the learning team which is made up of the student, parents or home mentor, teachers, administrative staff, and tutor if applicable.
  • Assists in orienting new families to distance learning
  • Directs parents to the appropriate administrative staff as needed
  • Serves as the learning team contact person and facilitates ongoing collaboration and effective communication within the learning team to include the student, parents, teachers, and administrative staff.
  • Promotes student and parent involvement in all facets of the learning process
  • Recommends additional learning support when needed, i.e. course changes, time management, tutors, supplemental materials, etc.
  • Informs, encourages, and reminds students to practice time management, prepare for standardized tests, maintain involvement in college and career planning,  
  • Assists in parent training and support
  • Encourages members of learning team to make final recommendations regarding future courses and learning styles applications.
