Student Assessment
Student Assessment is a vital part of the Laurel Springs educational process. In order for students to manifest their talents and gifts, they need to learn to feel loved and appreciated for who they are. The Laurel Springs philosophy of education, Learning Styles profile, Standardized Testing, Diagnostic Assessment's, Placement Assessments, consultations and customization provide a transformative power for students who are disenchanted with school or just need an alternative approach to the subject matter. These assessments and services give parents and teachers a road map to support academic needs, talents, interests, learning personality and dreams for every student's future. In this light, we have developed a student-centered approach to assessment that helps us better understand each child and measure the effectiveness of our courses.
Learning Styles Profile – Free with each child’s enrollment
All students entering Laurel Springs receive the Learning Styles Profile, an effective way for parents and teachers to understand how their child best assimilates knowledge and develops skills. The Learning Styles Profile¨ is at the heart of personalized education, as it raises awareness about the unique strengths and talents of each child and equips parents and teachers to foster these talents. Many families find that education becomes a natural experience when the child's learning style is acknowledged and lessons are adjusted to fit the child's aptitudes.
National Norm-Referenced Standardized Assessment – Free with each child's enrollment (full time, full year enrollments only)
The National Norm-Referenced Standardized Assessment is a standardized assessment for Laurel Springs’ students in 4th through 11th grade. It provides valuable information about your child’s educational progress in reading/language arts, spelling and mathematics.
Diagnostic Assessment – Free with each child's enrollment
Standards-based diagnostic assessments are given at the time of enrollment in mathematics and language arts. All students are required to take initial skills surveys the first time they enroll. Diagnostic assessments are designed to provide parents, students and teachers with specific information about what skills the student has and has not mastered. The score sheets empower parents and teachers to pinpoint, assign and review those areas the student must master before moving on to more complex materials.
LSS courses are mastery based, which means students work at their own pace.
