February 2005: New term of accreditation granted through January 2007.
On May 26, 2000, the Western Association of Schools and Colleges
(WASC) granted accreditation to Laurel Springs School.
WASC is the western regional branch of the national organization handling
accreditation for public and private schools, colleges, and universities
throughout the United States and along the Pacific Rim. By undergoing accreditation,
schools demonstrate a willingness to honestly evaluate the effectiveness
of their resources, curriculum, and instruction and to use feedback from
educational professionals to improve school programs.
Schools accredited by WASC have been found to provide effective curriculum,
instruction, and co-curricular programs to support student learning. Public
schools have pursued WASC accreditation to receive federal and state funding.
Like many private institutions, Laurel Springs School has embarked upon
the accreditation process to offer a tangible demonstration of the school's
status as a high-quality educational program supporting student growth and
learning.
During the past four years, Laurel Springs personnel have developed learning goals that we hold for all our students and worked diligently to ensure that all school programs are developed with those goals in mind. In August 1998, school personnel began an exhaustive self-study process which included an analysis of Laurel Springs School's administration, curriculum, instruction, and financial resources. The school continues to address the unique needs of distance learners using the highest standards for educational content and delivery published by the state of California. The school’s continued promise to focus on learning is evidenced in a five-year action plan to support the continued growth of Laurel Springs School.
The school's current action plan charts the course for school improvement through 2009. The plan met with overwhelming approval when reviewed by the WASC commission in January of 2005. The plan is a map for structural innovation and expansion of existing services to ensure achievement for all students in our diverse, international community.
